Before celebrities, royalty established the fashion trends for their societies. This was known as anti-fashion usually where continuity and lack of individualism is stressed upon people of lower class than the rulers of them. Present day, celebrities are the major fashion icon for trends, styles, and brands. Even though celebrities are a part of society the rest of society looks to them for fashion ideas. Is this good or bad? Is this also taking away individuality away from society similar to royalty's anti-fashion? Some would say that this affects those who are not already established in who they are. For instance, the younger generation maybe be guided by celebrities in fashion. Others would disagree that celebrities affect their fashion choices. Either way society as a whole is affected by the medias perspective of celebrities.
While celebrities were not always around for fashion taste, they became popular as technology increased in media. Celebrities were first seen in plays and dances but increasing became popular at the start of films and later into television. This is due to the fact that everyday people do not see celebrities or fashionable people often until media technology became available. With the invention of film and television, celebrities could now be viewed by anyone and resulting in influencing societies perspective of fashion.

This is a Roman and flappers inspired dress. The low waist band resembles a flappers dress from the 1920s.
This outfit has a 1920s style. The hat is a cloche from the 1920s and the coat is typical of 1920s furred coats.

Audrey Hepburn
“The image of Audrey Hepburn dressed in a simple black dress, walking up to Tiffany's in the early morning hours is one of the most iconic in film history. It showed Hepburn at her most naturally elegant and mysterious, and was key in making Breakfast at Tiffany's the classic it became.” Sam Wasson
Fashion Ideas:
Audrey Hepburn is known for making the little black dress, capri pants, ballet Flats, trench coats, and the fashion designer, Hubert Givenchy popular.
Large headdress is similar to 16th century French coiffures. Tulle was invented in the 16th century also so it could have been used during that time as a garnish of the coiffure or headdress.
Dress is a variation of a early 1800s hobble skirt. Hobble skirts were made to prevent women from taking long strides. Hobble skirts were also normally worn with large hats to form a triangular appearance.
This dress is similar to Roman style. The drapery across her body and over her shoulder resembles Roman Togas.

Lady Gaga
Known for her individuality is an example of the Post-modern era. Her unique style and personality drive people today to be distinctive and rebel for freedom of creativity and individuality.
On sexuality: “Being a woman in the pop world, sexuality is half poison and half liberation. What’s the line? I don’t have a line. I am the most sexually free woman on the planet, and I genuinely am empowered from a very honest place by my sexuality. … If I didn’t think I had the talent to back that up, I wouldn’t have done it.”
Meaning, sexuality is the style occurring during this time and to be a part of fashion then you got to play the part.
Fashion Ideas:
Black and White dress appears to be from 1980s modern influence. The large sleeves reminded me of the Power Era where an increase of women in the work world promoted women to dress similar to men. Also, the dress reminds me of a flappers dress because the seam differentiating the dress from the body is very low (below hips). Sometimes a flappers dress was low or nonexistent and reducing the appearance of a woman's hips which lady gaga's dress appears to do also.
The Paint on Lady Gaga's Face reminds me of the 1980s rock trend where hair bands would paint their faces and dye their hair to falsely appear different or unique from other music genres.
The White dress reminded me first of a variation of the 1850s hoop skirt. Obviously, Lady Gaga's dress is shorter and does not contain such a large circumference as the 1850s dress did but the idea is still present. Also, the empire waist resembles that of the late 18th century-early 19th century.
The Red Dress appears to be a remake of a 16 century Renaissance dress. It has a very noticeable ruff around the neck and large shoulders that narrow after the elbow that are characteristic of this time period.
The Black dress reminds me of Egyptian style due to the large golden collar adorn with feathers.
The Kermit the frog dress is an example Lady's Gaga's individuality to where anything she wants.
