Before celebrities, royalty established the fashion trends for their societies. This was known as anti-fashion usually where continuity and lack of individualism is stressed upon people of lower class than the rulers of them. Present day, celebrities are the major fashion icon for trends, styles, and brands. Even though celebrities are a part of society the rest of society looks to them for fashion ideas. Is this good or bad? Is this also taking away individuality away from society similar to royalty's anti-fashion? Some would say that this affects those who are not already established in who they are. For instance, the younger generation maybe be guided by celebrities in fashion. Others would disagree that celebrities affect their fashion choices. Either way society as a whole is affected by the medias perspective of celebrities.
While celebrities were not always around for fashion taste, they became popular as technology increased in media. Celebrities were first seen in plays and dances but increasing became popular at the start of films and later into television. This is due to the fact that everyday people do not see celebrities or fashionable people often until media technology became available. With the invention of film and television, celebrities could now be viewed by anyone and resulting in influencing societies perspective of fashion.
